Now that we've established how to work things, how do you make money doing it? Maybe you aren't selling wigets. Maybe you just have a lot of
interesting information about the widgets, but you don't know any affiliates directly who sell them. Don't worry, you aren't lost. Everyone's seen
text ads on their site, such as on this one to the left and right. Lets review some of it.
Google Adsense lets you put advertisments on your site. If (when) people click on your ads, you make money. They determine the advertisments based on the words on your page (ahhh, keyword rich pages are important). They have a whole variety of different advertisment layouts you can use, including image banners, image blocks, image skyscrapers, text banners, text blocks, text skyscrapers, and even simple link blocks. Click the above banner to sign up. It's free. If you decide to use them on your site, they'll send you checks, or direct deposits. A good site that people are interested in will make you a lot of money.
Google AdWords is the other side of the operation. If you want to drive traffic to your site, from millions of web pages, this is for you. You simply bid on what keywords you want to show your ad, and you will pay that much for placement. Of course, the more you pay, the higher priority you are to show, but don't let it break your budget. Stay low enough so it doesn't financially hurt, and all will be good. For example, if you happen to be selling Widgets, since I have so much information on widgets above, and you select the keyword "Widgets", your ad will likely show up here. Click the banner above to sign up for Google AdWords. Explore their system, and once you understand how it works, you'll want to use it. I also recommend AdBrite. While not as large as Google's networks, it does hold it's own pretty well. It's a good way to drive in traffic for a whole lot less money. A single signup gives you both sites, to show advertisments on your page, or buy advertising space on other people's sites. |
